My Top Tips for Success
Be sure to give your waffle iron plenty of time to preheat. A hot waffle maker is the secret to getting that gorgeous, perfectly golden-brown crust as soon as your batter hits the grid.
Bonus: you get to save on dishes! There’s no need to rinse out the mixing bowl after chopping your apples—just move straight on to mixing up the batter.
To keep the juicy bite of fresh apples intact, pour your smooth batter right over the chopped apples in your mixing bowl, then gently fold everything together with a flexible spatula.
For a picture-perfect presentation and extra crunch, sprinkle a few whole toasted hazelnuts over the top, drizzle generously with caramel sauce, and garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.

Can You Make These Waffles Ahead of Time?
Yes, absolutely! This recipe works like a charm. Thanks to the apples and sour cream in the batter, these waffles stay so tender, moist, and flavorful that they even taste amazing cold later on.
That means you can easily whip them up in the morning or make them a day in advance. Just let them cool completely, then store them in an airtight container.
Fun Variations & Serving Ideas
Keep it classic: For that timeless diner feel, dust the warm waffles with a light dusting of powdered sugar. A dollop of whipped cream and a spoonful of sweet applesauce take them right over the top.
Make it an indulgent dessert: If you’re in the mood for a special treat, serve the waffles warm straight out of the iron with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of warm vanilla sauce.
Skip the cinnamon: The half teaspoon of cinnamon is totally optional! If you or your kiddos aren’t big cinnamon fans, feel free to leave it out entirely.

How to Make Apple Nut Waffles
Instructions:
Preheat your waffle iron ahead of time (Belgian or square waffle makers work best!) so it’s nice and hot when you’re ready to bake.
Chop your peeled and cored apples into rough chunks and toss them into the mixing bowl. Chop for 2 sec / speed 4.5. Transfer the finely chopped apples to a separate bowl. No need to rinse the mixing bowl for the next step!
Add the room-temperature butter, eggs, and sugar to the mixing bowl and mix for 1 min / speed 5.
Next, add the sour cream, ground hazelnuts, flour, baking powder, and cinnamon (if using). Mix for another 15 sec / speed 4 until you have a smooth batter.
Pour the batter over the chopped apples in your bowl and gently fold everything together using a spatula.
Now, ladle the batter into your hot waffle iron in batches and bake until golden brown and delicious.
Enjoy!
I hope you have so much fun making these! Happy baking!
