My Top Tips for Making Sausage Goulash

Pasta, rice, mashed potatoes, or freshly baked crusty bread all make wonderful sides to soak up that rich, flavorful sauce.

Easy Variations & Mix-Ins:

Out of diced tomatoes? Tomato purée (passata) or fresh chopped tomatoes work just as well.

You can easily swap out beef or pork broth for vegetable broth without losing any flavor.

Toss in some sweet corn for a touch of sweetness and extra texture.

Smoked sausages, kielbasa, or cabanossi add a wonderful smoky punch to this stew—feel free to mix and match your favorites!

Keeping it plant-based? This recipe works fantastic with your favorite vegan sausages!

Pro tip: Give the sliced sausages a quick sear in a skillet before tossing them in! It gives them a delicious crispy edge and adds so much extra flavor to the goulash.

Got leftovers? Turn them into a cheesy pasta bake the next day—just toss with cooked noodles, top with cheese, and bake until bubbly!

Can you make this ahead of time and store it?

Absolutely! You can easily make this sausage goulash the day before and just reheat it when you’re ready to serve.

Always store your goulash in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Any leftovers will stay super fresh in the fridge for 2 to 3 days.

Want to save it for longer? It freezes beautifully! Store it in a freezer-safe container, and it’ll keep for several months.

How to Make Sausage Goulash

Instructions:

First, peel the onion and garlic clove. Quarter the onion and halve the garlic, then add them to the mixing bowl. Chop for 5 sec / speed 5, then scrape down the sides of the bowl with your spatula.

If you prefer a finer chop, simply repeat this step.

Next, rinse the bell pepper and pat it dry.

Remove the seeds and core, then chop the bell pepper into bite-sized dice.

Add the diced bell pepper to the mixing bowl along with the oil, and sauté for 4 min / 120°C / reverse / speed 1.

Now, add the rest of the ingredients—the diced canned tomatoes, beef broth, tomato paste, and seasonings. Bring to a simmer for 6 min / 100°C / reverse / speed 1.

Meanwhile, slice up your sausages and cook along for 9 min / 100°C (212°F) / Reverse / Speed 1.

If you prefer it a little creamier, feel free to stir in 2 to 3 tablespoons of sour cream or crème fraîche right near the end of the cooking time.

Garnish with a little fresh parsley and serve!

Enjoy!
