Tips for Success

Serve these skewers alongside steamed jasmine rice, a fresh side salad, veggies, or even some warm flatbread for dipping.

Adjust the amount of Sambal Oelek to fit your spice level—start with a little less if you prefer things on the milder side!

Don’t have Sambal Oelek on hand? Yellow curry paste makes a fantastic substitute.

Instead of using a skillet, you can also toss these skewers on the outdoor grill for a delicious charred flavor.

Can I Make This Ahead of Time?

Yes! You can easily prep and marinate the chicken skewers ahead of time and store them in the fridge until you’re ready to cook.

The peanut sauce can also be made in advance—just keep it sealed in an airtight container in the fridge.

Both the cooked chicken skewers and the peanut sauce freeze beautifully, too!

Easy Variations

This recipe is super easy to customize! Feel free to tweak the spices to match your taste or throw extra veggies into the peanut sauce.

Pineapple: Add a splash of pineapple juice and juicy pineapple chunks to the marinade.

Peanut Butter: Swap the roasted peanuts for peanut butter in the sauce for an even easier prep.

Veggies: Thread vegetables like bell peppers, zucchini, and mushrooms right onto the skewers with the chicken.

How to Make Chicken Satay with Peanut Sauce

    Prep Work:

Pat the chicken breasts dry with paper towels and place them into a bowl.

    Make the Marinade:

For the marinade, peel the onion, garlic, and ginger, place them into the mixing bowl, and chop for 5 sec / speed 6.

Add the sesame oil and sauté for 2 min / 120°C / Speed 1.

Add the coriander and cumin and sauté for 1 min / 120°C / Speed 1.

Finally, add the soy sauce and sambal oelek, then blend for 10 sec / Speed 7.

Pour the marinade over the chicken, toss well to coat, and let it marinate in the fridge for at least 1 hour.

    Make the Peanut Sauce:

To make the peanut sauce, start by giving your mixing bowl a quick rinse. Add the roasted peanuts to the bowl and chop for 10 sec / Speed 10.

Use your spatula to scrape down the sides of the bowl, then repeat the process. Transfer the chopped peanuts to a small bowl and set aside.

Rinse the mixing bowl again. Peel the garlic, drop it into the bowl, and chop for 5 sec / Speed 7.

Add the sesame oil and sambal oelek, then sauté for 2 min / 120°C / Speed 1.

Next, add the sugar and fresh juice from half a lime, then mix for 5 sec / Speed 3.

Finally, add the coconut milk, ground peanuts, and salt, and cook for 8 min / 98°C / Speed 2.

    Cook the Chicken Skewers:

For the chicken skewers, start by soaking 8 wooden skewers in water. Pat them dry before threading.

Remove the marinated chicken pieces from the marinade and thread them onto the skewers.

Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat, then add a splash of high-heat oil (like sunflower or peanut oil).

Once the oil is nice and hot, lay the chicken skewers in the skillet and cook until golden brown and cooked through on both sides.

Depending on the size of your skillet, you may want to cook them in two quick batches.

    How to Serve:

Remove the skewers from the skillet and serve warm with that delicious homemade peanut sauce!

You can also garnish the skewers with sesame seeds, fresh chives, or a few lime wedges before serving!

    Enjoy!
