How to Make Cut-Out Sugar Cookies
Getting Started:
First, preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper and set them aside.
Instructions:
Add all of the ingredients—except for the flour and baking powder—into the mixing bowl and mix for 30 sec / speed 3.5.
Next, combine the flour and baking powder, add them to the bowl, and knead for 4 min / Dough Mode until a dough forms.
The dough will be quite soft at this stage. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
Once chilled, give the dough a quick knead by hand on a lightly floured surface (or even better, a silicone pastry mat).
If the dough still feels a bit sticky, simply sprinkle in a little extra flour.
Lightly flour your work surface again, as well as the top of the dough.
Pro Tip: Always add flour little by little. Adding too much flour can dry out the dough and make it crumbly!
Place a sheet of parchment paper over the dough and roll it out with a rolling pin until it’s about 1/8 to 1/4-inch thick (3-5 mm)—this trick keeps the dough from sticking to your rolling pin!
Peel off the parchment paper, then cut out cookies as close together as possible using your favorite holiday cookie cutters. Transfer them to the prepared baking sheets, leaving a little space between each cookie.
Pro Tip: Dip your cookie cutters in flour every now and then so the dough doesn’t stick.
Gather the dough scraps, knead them together, roll out, and cut out more cookies until you’ve used up all the dough.
Bake the sheets one at a time in the lower third of the oven for 10–13 minutes, or until the cookies are lightly golden around the edges.
Let the cookies cool completely. Enjoy them plain, or get creative and decorate them!
Enjoy!
