This is total cozy comfort food made super simple! Everything gets tossed straight into one baking dish, bakes up practically effortlessly in the oven, and delivers all that delicious, classic cabbage roll flavor you love.
Peel the potatoes and cut them into bite-sized cubes.
500 g Pointed cabbage
Quarter the cabbage, remove the core, and chop it into bite-sized pieces.
Meatballs:
1 Onion
First, peel and quarter the onion. Add it to the mixing bowl and chop for 5 sec / Speed 5. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with the spatula.
600 g Mixed ground meat (beef and pork), 50 g Rice, 1 Egg, 1 tsp Mustard, 1 tsp Salt, ¼ tsp Black pepper, 1 tsp Paprika
Add the remaining meatball ingredients to the bowl and mix for 2 min / Dough Mode. Transfer the mixture to a separate bowl.
Sauce:
1 Onion, 1 Garlic clove, 2 Carrots, 1 Red bell pepper
For the sauce, peel and quarter the onion, peel the garlic clove, peel the carrots and chop into rough chunks, and seed the red bell pepper and chop into rough chunks.
Add everything to the mixing bowl and chop for 10 sec / Speed 5. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with the spatula.
25 g Oil, 50 g Tomato paste
Add the oil and tomato paste, then sauté for 3 min / 120 °C / Speed 2.
50 ml Heavy cream, 1 tsp Salt, ½ tsp Black pepper, 1 tsp Paprika, ¼ tsp Sugar, 10 g All-purpose flour, 500 ml Vegetable broth
Next, add the vegetable broth, heavy cream, salt, pepper, paprika, sugar, and flour. Bring to a boil for 3 min / 100 °C / Speed 2, then blend smooth for 30 sec / gradually increasing Speed 5-8.
Layer and Bake:
Place the cubed potatoes into a large baking dish or Dutch oven.
Shape the meat mixture into about 12 meatballs and nestle them over the potatoes.
Scatter and tuck the cabbage pieces around and over the meatballs.
2 Bay leaves
Pour the sauce evenly over the cabbage and top with the bay leaves.
Cover the baking dish with its lid (or foil) and bake in the preheated oven for 60–70 minutes.
Remove the bay leaves right before serving and enjoy!
